'Evolutionary' Disposer is Easy to Install Designed with a 1.0-horsepower Dura-Drive® Induction Motor, the Evolution Excel® is truly 'evolutionary'--giving you the most horsepower of any food waste disposer on the market. An added bonus, the Evolution Excel's 40-ounce stainless steel grind chamber and grind component is built to handle more volume than other disposers. The Evolution Excel® food waste disposer is constructed with a stainless steel Quick Lock® sink mount for easy installation. All InSinkErator® food waste disposers are built with this feature, making replacement of older units a breeze--simply disconnect and replace your old disposer using the same sink mount.
Environmentally Friendly, Wallet-Friendly Choice The Evolution Excel® food waste disposer is a practical and environmentally responsible way to help reduce the 31 million tons of solid waste generated from food scraps in the U.S. each year.Instead of throwing this food waste away, grinding it with the Evolution Excel® sends it to your local municipal wastewater treatment plant, where it can be recycled to produce methane, a renewable source of power for the plant. Additionally, wastewater treatment plants can process food waste into biosolids to be used as fertilizer (check the plant in your area). Food waste disposers average less than 50 cents a year in electricity to operate and account for less than one percent of ahousehold's total water consumption. In fact, the Evolution Excel® features an average water usage of one gallon per person per day and an average electrical usage of three to four kilowatt hours per year, making it among the least expensive installed kitchen appliances.
We Come To You® Parts and Labor Warranty The Evolution Excel® is backed by an exclusive seven-year We Come to You® In-Home Service Warranty. This warranty from InSinkErator® includes free house calls (including parts and labor) for the entire warranty period. The in-home warranty is no-hassle February 19, 2010 S. Hoffman (PGH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I won't go on about how awesome this disposal is, the previous reviews are all accurate. I did have a warranty issue however that I wanted to share. After eyeing this disposal for years I finally decided to pick one up from my neighborhood Lowes. Installation was a snap as I had a previous model installed. However when I went to turn it on it was dead. I double-checked the installation and verified power was coming to the unit. For whatever reason I just got a bad apple. These things happen. I called In-Sinkerator and they gave me a local appliance repair shop to contact for the warranty. The next day they were out, verified it was a unit problem and replaced it (and installed it) with a brand new unit at no cost to me. And I still have 6 years, 364 days left on the in-home warranty.
As Quiet As Advertised. Low Vibration, Too February 18, 2010 P. Colin McGraw (Castle Rock, CO) We had an InSinkErator Badger 5 that went out on us after giving us a couple years of trouble with jams, shorts, and our pipes backing up with poorly-ground food. We were sick of dealing with all the problems of a lesser model, so we went higher end in the hopes of having more power, finer ground particles of food, and fewer jams.
We did a bit of research and noticed Consumer Reports actually recommends the 1 HP Waste King L-8000 Legend as the best performing disposer, but they recommended the 1 HP Evolution Excel if noise was a concern. As it turns out, we have three kids under three years old, and because of sensitivity to their napping and the fact that we could get a good deal on installation of the Evolution Excel, we opted for it over the Waste King.
The first thing I'll point out is I'd have absolutely no qualms about running the disposer while my kids were napping. It's as quiet as you hear in Amazon's video, though I discovered if you have a double-bowl kitchen sink, you have to put the plug in the second bowl when the disposer is running or lose most of the benefit. The sound running through the pipes is still relatively loud.
It also feels like there may be even less vibration than our old Badger 5, which had half the power (though it was getting old)!
All in all, we love the disposer so far! You pay a premium for fine grinding, power and most of all quietness, but if that appeals to you, you'll be happy with the Evolution Excel!
One of the best you can get February 6, 2010 Volsboy (Tenn) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a Mechanical engineer and I also love to cook and have large dinners once a week.I was forced to do a ton of research on disposer's when I had the kitchen done.In the 70s and 80s everybody made there own disposer's and they are better than what you can get today.Kitchenaid,Maytag's,and old Wastekings were the best you could buy.K-Aid disposer's were 40 pounds of Cast steel alloys and they had undercutters on them back then. All of the above brands hand undercutting blades that after the waste is ground and goes in the drain chamber it is cut again by shear like blades. The grind rings on Disposers do the work ,disposers don't have blades in them except old Wastekings they have a center ripper blade in them.Disposer's grind the food by slinging it against the sides were there is a chez grater ring the surrounds the flywheel, the things you see are impellers they push the food around and around.In-Sink-erators were at one point and still are (badger) the worst at grinding and the sad thing is there used to be nothing differnt between the badger versions and the 777ss except stainless steel and more power. The grind chambers on Kenmore,Maytag,K-Aid,are all the same every disposer that has that ISE mount is made by them.A Kenmore 1hp is no different than the 1Hp Maytag except the Maytag is 300 and the Kenmore is 150.I needed a new disposer for my prep sink and I love my Viking it is the old Kitchenaid design.Viking bought the rights from Whirlpool and is a great disposer but was 600 bucks in 2004.I went and got the Ise Excel because it has Fixed hammers and swinging and has the most important part undercutters. I can grind cornhusks in my Viking and this excel will also that is a huge problem with all the others out there they cant handle stringy things.I was very leary at first because I am so hard on disposer's I shove steak bones, rib bones, raw bones, paper and all kinds of things down the Viking and it never stops but the excel seems to be just as good so far and it is very quite to the point if you wonder if its on.The Excel has a jam sensor in it that is the cause of the strange pause at first start up and is normal.I thought there was something wrong with it but the flywheel is making sure it the coast is clear or does it need to engage the hammer and reverse fuction. If you have problems with your disposer stopping up then you cant go wrong with this one or if you hate hearing or worrying about will it grind then you cant go wrong with this one.I have ground everything in mine and never a problem.I was wondering when I.S.E. would wake up and make a good disposer,Wasteking is the only other different brand and there not Wastekings if you ask me.Sinkmaster bought them out and they use that same motor and grind setup and took the good Wasteking design a made them cost thousands as commercial disposer's.The Wastekings motor's are loud and the hammers click like crazy and drive me nuts and there all plastic made in China now so I prefer to buy American made products.Sorry about my grammer folks,I am gifted in Math and Science but grammer I just never could grasp and hated it.
just finished installing it. Wow. February 4, 2010 Bob Franco 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It took me about 45 minutes to install my new insinkerator that I purchased from Amazon. I'm no plumber yet found this pretty simple. It's a little heavy, but most able bodied individuals can install this without any help. The only thing I had to buy that wasn't in the box was plumbers putty and a cable connector for the electrical. I couldn't find anything to "dispose of" to truely test it out except for a 6 month old rock hard lime. Needless to say the new disposal didn't even flinch as it quietly obliterated the lime. I am certain that thing would still be clanking around inside my old POS Kenmore. I am thrilled with this product so far. Good price on Amazon compared to Lowes as well--
So quiet that it seems like it's not working. February 4, 2010 Satoshi Tauchi I have replaced a Badger 5 with unit. I would recommend you to spend the extra money and get anything BUT the Badger series. Honestly, I don't think the total time used on my Badger 5 was even 24 hours before it started leaking. Maybe it was because I used to wash my dishes on this side of the sink? Buy nice or buy twice.
Anyways, I installed this unit in about an hour. I just reused the flange from my previous unit so that cut some time off.
Parts to keep in handy for installation:
1. A saw if you need to modify your existing pipe drain. This unit's outlet is lower than the Badger so you will have to adjust the height on your pipes.
2. Power cord kit. I reused the power cord from my old unit but you should have some butt connectors handy just in case the wires are crimped together and you can not reuse the connectors.
3. Car jack or books or whatever to support the unit up so you can tighten the ring to the flange on the sink. Trying to hold up the unit while trying to tighten the ring gets very tiresome if you have a hard time lining up the ring to the flange.
After installing this thing and turned it on for the first time, you will probably think to yourself, "Huh?Is this thing broken?" and you will probably look inside just to make sure it's spinning. The thing just makes a humming noise like something is jammed. But, when I turn it on, it always makes a buzzing noise before it starts spinning. I do not know if this is normal.
All n all, this unit is VERY VERY quiet and I would recommend this for anyone where noise is a factor. As for grinding of food, I can not comment since I only installed it last night but I hope this thing eats up a storm! Hopefully, I won't have to write back saying what a crappy unit this is.
